The Summer School will take place at El Escorial, Spain (http://www.euroforum.es/), a nice and historic city about 50 km to the north of Madrid. See further information below and in the website.
The whole activity will focus primarily on the following topics:
* One-Way Quantum Computation and Statistical Mechanics
* Topological Codes and Statistical Models
* Random Statistical Mechanical Systems and Lattice Gauge Theories
* Quantum Information and Models of Discrete Quantum Gravity

The symposium is intended to intensify the link between the basic research areas of photonics and atomic ensembles. Leading scientists in the fields of quantum communication protocols, quantum memory and quantum repeaters, atomic ensembles, Rydberg atoms and photonic QIP will discuss new promising approaches to quantum information and communication technologies and their physical challenges.

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at the University of Nottingham, UK. The Ultracold Atoms Group is the youngest group in the School of Physics and Astronomy. It is part of the Midlands Ultracold Atom Research Centre (MUARC), formed together with the Cold Atoms Group at The University of Birmingham. We started our work in 2008 and now have several laboratory setups with ultra-cold atomic gases.
When the particles that make up a material are strongly-correlated, we theorists get a run for our money: qualitatively new behaviour emerges and the whole is a lot more than the sum of its parts. The theoretical description of matter in such challenging circumstances benefits from very close interaction with experimentalists. For this reason the University of Kent has set up, as part of the SEPnet collaboration, a small outpost of theorists at the ISIS Facility in the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.
