École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), a leading engineering institution within the Université du Québec system, has established a new Chair in Quantum Algorithms to advance cutting-edge research in the field. This Chair forms a foundational element of a broader strategic initiative: the creation of a future Quantum Science and Engineering Institute at ÉTS. As part of this growing ecosystem, we invite outstanding candidates to join a dynamic research group focused on the theoretical and experimental advancement of quantum computing.

Join a team led by Jacob Biamonte as part of the ÉTS team in Quantum Algorithms. This research team brings together dedicated research groups under individual chairholders (and beyond) to form a collaborative, interdisciplinary core in quantum computing. Claude Crépeau is a fellow chairholder in this cluster, and two additional chairs will be established to complete the initiative. Collaborative opportunities also exist with professors Michael McGuffin, Olivier Landon-Cardinal, Jean-Marc Robert, Sylvain Cloutier, and others.

This postdoctoral position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to Quebec’s rapidly developing quantum research landscape while working closely with industrial and academic partners across the province.

Your Role
You will engage in advanced research in quantum algorithm development, tensor network theory, mathematical and physical foundations of quantum computing, and experimental validation and benchmarking of theoretical models on real quantum hardware.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. (awarded within the last 5 years or near completion) in quantum computing, theoretical physics, applied mathematics, or a closely related field.
  • Experience or interest in linking theoretical research with experimental validation on quantum platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills, scientific writing abilities, and teamwork.

Targeted Areas of Expertise

  • Quantum computing algorithms
  • Tensor network theory
  • Mathematical and physical foundations of quantum computing
  • Experimental validation and benchmarking on quantum processors (IBM, PASQAL)

Start Date, Fellowship Duration and Compensation
The position is available to begin as soon as possible and may be held for a period not exceeding three years, subject to annual renewal and performance review.
Compensation: The salary will depend on qualifications and experience.
Benefits include: 3% salary allowance for health insurance or eligibility for Quebec’s public health insurance (RAMQ), access to campus amenities, public transit discounts, and professional development resources.
Career development: Opportunities for mentoring graduate students and involvement in teaching activities.

Submitting Your Application
All applications will be processed in strict confidentiality.
ÉTS will take into account any leaves that may result in career interruptions or delays. Therefore, we encourage you to mention any such leave that may have affected your professional path. We will take this information into consideration when evaluating your application.
In case of a disability, we may offer accommodation measures during the hiring process.
Deadline: Applications must be submitted no later than September 1, 2025, and must include the following documents:

  • A cover letter outlining your background and alignment with the research themes listed above
  • A detailed CV
  • Two representative scientific publications

Your Advantages

  • COMPETITIVE SALARY
  • TELEMEDICINE
  • SPORTS CENTER ON SITE
  • GROUP INSURANCE | PENSION PLAN
  • 3 MONTHS OF FREE PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Equity and Inclusion
ÉTS is actively implementing its Equal Opportunity Program, inviting applications from women, Indigenous peoples, visible and ethnic minorities, and people with disabilities. We are committed to inclusion and accessibility and are ready to provide assistance during the selection process to candidates who require it.
We encourage candidates to complete the Equal Employment Opportunity form and include it with their CV. The candidate must have the right or permission to work in Canada from the start and for the entire duration of the assignment.

This postdoctoral position is offered as part of a research program led by the Ministry Chair holder in Quantum Algorithms and Director of the forthcoming Quantum Science and Engineering Institute at ÉTS, Université du Québec, Jacob Biamonte.
