Position open for a 1-year postdoc in the group “Quantum Dynamics and Control” led by Aurelia Chenu at the University of Luxembourg, starting asap. See our group at chenulab.com

The postdoc fellow will be working on a wave-function picture of open quantum dynamics, including the effect of measurement.

The applicant should be a creative and motivated researcher with knowledge of one or all of the following:
- measurement theory - quantum optics - quantum dynamics - stochastic processes

In addition, they should have
• Excellent analytical and numerical skills;
 • A high-quality PhD in Theoretical Physics;
 • Solid knowledge of Quantum Mechanics; • Will to drive a project;
 • Good written and oral skills in English.

The very nature of quantum systems is to be sensitive to observation. One way to describe realistic quantum systems is to consider that they are open and interacting with the surrounding environment. Alternatively, one can include the measurement process, either as monitoring by the environment itself or by an external apparatus. Importantly, quantum mechanics gives probabilistic predictions about the system’s state. While the average description of the state density matrix might be similar for different monitoring techniques, the statistics at the level of the single trajectories can depend on the measurement scheme. Your role will be to derive the wave function picture for various composite systems, including the effect of the measurement, and bridge this dynamics to the conventional open system approach. You will be closely interacting with one PhD student.

We offer a dynamic research unit in a recently created, quickly growing University; excellent working conditions in an international and inspiring environment; and opportunities to participate regularly in scientific activities in Luxembourg and abroad (seminars, summer schools, conferences, etc.).

To apply, please send the following documents:
 • Motivation letter, stating your experience and why you are interested in the position;
 • Curriculum vitae (include year of birth); • Contact of three persons willing to send letters of recommendation.

Send the application to aurelia.chenu@uni.lu with the keyword ‘MarieSpeyer-postdoc’ in the email subject.

Please mention if you need a visa to work in Europe.

Applications will be processed upon arrival. The position will be closed when filled.
