In the theoretical nanooptics group we explore the possibility to control the properties of light by means of micro- and nanostructured materials. We apply this opportunity to enable applications previously inaccessible or to significantly enhance already existing applications. In our work we rely on a large variety of different numerical and theoretical tools and on the close interaction to a large variety of experimental and theoretical groups that work in the same scientific area.
The group is interested in a variety of topics related to quantum algorithms and quantum computing (design of new quantum algorithms, lower bounds for quantum algorithms, algorithmic aspects of quantum communication and quantum cryptography, quantum non-locality and quantum Hamiltonian complexity), as well as non-quantum topics in theoretical computer science.

QuSoft is the Dutch research Center for Quantum Software, a collaboration between the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI). Its mission is to explore and develop uses of quantum computers and other quantum technologies, for the benefit of society. The researchers at QuSoft develop algorithms, software and applications that exploit the extraordinary power of quantum computers based on their quantum mechanical properties, such as superposition, interference and entanglement.
