in the field of quantum information theory.<!--break-->

The ITCM Group at the University of Sussex is looking for candidates to fill two three-year postdoctoral positions in quantum technology.

The ITCM Group combines two of the most successful techniques in quantum information processing: individually trapped ions and strong-coupling cavity-QED and uses to set up a distributed quantum network. The principal challenge is the requirement for miniature-size traps and microscopic optical cavities to provide suitable conditions for a high-fidelity interface between ions and photons.

The development of technologies for the 21st century, coupled with fundamental scientific inquiry, is driving new theoretical and experimental research on control in quantum systems. Experience has shown that systematic use of quantum control theory leads to significant improvements in technologies ranging from magnetic resonance to prototype quantum computers. Compelling case studies of quantum control have been developed in wide-ranging fields such as chemistry, metrology, optical networking and computer science.

Applications from highly motivated researchers are welcome to apply for a postdoctoral position in the group of Gerhard Kirchmair which is located at the Institut for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information and at the Experimental Physics departement of the University of Innsbruck. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in physics or a related field and ideally have a strong background in experimental quantum physics and/or nanofabrication.

Submission deadline:

Thursday, March 19, 2015

The conference series started in early 1990s in Central Europe and evolved during more than 20 years into one of most popular annual meetings of European scientists interested in quantum optics and quantum information. Organized every year in another location, the conference has travelled across the continent and in 2015 it will come for the first time to Poland.
