The project is to carry out research on the equilibrium and out-of-equilibrium properties of many-body system, for example cold atomic gases, quantum optical systems or classical colloidal systems. One focus will be on the study of the emergence of correlated states and collective phenomena in the presence of dissipation and/or (coherent) driving.

The school aims to provide a broad overview of different implementations of quantum information processing and quantum simulation enabled by recent progress in nanotechnologies. Seven leading experts will review the experimental and theoretical state-of-the-art for some of the most promising implementations such as semiconductor quantum dots, superconducting circuits, defect centers in diamond, photonic crystal structures, and topological insulators and explore the prospects of quantum computing, quantum simulation, and the physics of quantum many-body systems.

The Quantum Effects in Biological Systems conference is a platform for researchers from biology, chemistry and physics to present and discuss the latest developments in the field of quantum biology. After meetings in Lisbon (2009), Harvard (2010), Ulm (2011), Berkeley (2012), Vienna (2013), Singapore (2014) and Florence (2015), the next QuEBS will take place in Durban, South Africa chaired by Prof. Francesco Petruccione.

Every year Aberystwyth University runs a competition for PhD fellowships. I'm looking for a candidate to apply with for this competition, with a deadline on 1st of March, and an aim to start their PhD in Autumn. My group currently consists of four PhD students and one PostDoc. Aberystwyth is a beautiful seaside town in Wales with lots of nature around. The fellowship will pay for home/EU fees and provide a stipend for living costs for 3 years.
