Trapped Rydberg ions are a novel quantum system. By laser light, the outermost electron of trapped ions is excited to high-lying orbitals. Such Rydberg ions are million times bigger than ions in the ground state, and due to their size, they obtain very peculiar properties. For instance, they have very large transition dipole moments thus become very sensitive to microwave fields.

The Light-Matter Interactions Unit (groups.oist.jp/light) in OIST, headed by Prof Síle Nic Chormaic, invites applications for a postdoc on quantum dot integration with structured optical nanofibers for cavity QED measurements. The successful candidate will work within the Neutral Atoms for Quantum Technologies Group. Only candidates with research vision and exemplary publication records will be considered. The successful candidate must have experience in nano waveguides, optical nanofibers, ideally with quantum dot manipulation skills.

The Relativistic Quantum Information – North 2018 Conference at the University of Vienna is held under the auspices of the International Society for Relativistic Quantum Information and is the ninth in the series of such meetings taking place in the Northern Hemisphere.
